Muslims, Religiosity, and Attitudes Toward Wife Beating: Analysis of the World Values Survey

This study examines the relationships among religiosity, affiliation with Islam, and attitudes toward wife beating. A series of individual- country-level mixed modeling is performed on a sample 45,268 subjects in 37 countries. The derived from World Values Survey. results show that Islam related to an accepting attitude beating regardless demographics; Muslim’s gender inequality; or country’s aggregated inequality, predominant religion, human development level, religious diversity. However, Muslim who maintains high-level belief religiosity exhibits less than has low-level religiosity. In addition, increasing Muslims may contribute decreasing
